TRANSCRIPT OF THE PASSING-OUT PARADE 2009 SPEECH

DSC00332 Good Afternoon Cadets, Today is the Passing-Out Parade for the Secondary 4 Part D cadets. It is amazing how quickly time flies, the once little boys of yesterday have all grown up to become fine young leaders of tomorrow. In fact many of them are already leaders in their own right. Besides being honourable NCC Specialists, among this bunch of very jovial and dynamic cadets, are also monitors, class reps, CCA leaders, prefects, even vice and head prefects. And for those who do not hold school-based leadership appointments, you too have, at different times, made great contribution to this school and our unit. As cadets, you have been through many sessions of tough, and sometimes really boring trainings. However, I am quite certain you will look back at all those senseless drills sessions and crazy screamings from your beloved USMs and CLTs, like Anthony and Daniel, with great fondness. Even Marc here had lent his voice to these sessions from time to time. Those were the good times, weren’t they? As brothers, you have gone through many moments of anguish and frustrations trying to get along with each other. Yet there were as many moments, if not more, when kind and comforting words were exchange, especially with the going gets tough. These moments, be it good or bad, are things that binds you as brothers, and those moments, they are really the good times. As leaders, you have gone through many great camps and even organised some. You have also planned and conducted many great training sessions, which would have been just run of the mill if not for the great team spirit and camaraderie you all have fostered over the years, where each and everyone of you would rise to the occasion and be there for your fellow mates. Every time someone made a compliment about how wonderful you guys are, I would definitely be beaming with pride, grinning proudly from ear to ear. Not because I feel that I have had a hand at making you guys great, but simply because I have had the privilege to have work with you great guys. So to my Part A, B and especially Part C cadets, you have huge shoes to fill and high standards to meet. But don’t let that deter or discourage you; instead, let this challenge be a motivation; for you, like me, have been privileged to have work with a bunch of great cadets, great brothers. Adopt the attitudes of your seniors, who have clearly shown you what great teamwork can achieve. And to my Part Ds, you have made my three years with this unit a blast and you have definitely made a difference - and a good difference, if I may add. To me, your collective great performance and contribution are reflections of all the seven core values of NCC: you have shown great discipline, uprightness and responsibility to our unit, our school and the Corp; your leadership and commitment have given us our Gold Unit status; your adventurous spirit and care for fellow cadets have made the CCHY NCC(Air) experience one of a kind; and having known you all for 3 years, I am quite certain you will display great loyalty to this country in time to come. Therefore, it is indeed a great honour for me to be here to present this little speech to express my most heartfelt and sincere gratitude to all your great work and contribution. Stand tall and stand proud; for we would not be where we are not if not for your positive attitude and commitment. With this, I give you the Cadets of 2009. BY LTA(NCC) MR VICTOR TAN CO CCHY NCC(AIR)
