As part of the Enhanced NCC Experience Framework, NCC aims to contribute more effectively towards the desired outcomes of MOE and MINDEF by developing the character of our young cadets early and preparing them to become responsible and empathetic leaders. Hence Camp STEEL (Acronym for Standards, Tenacity, Emotional Intelligence, Energy and Leadership), for all Part B cadets as another of the NCC’s contributions to youth development.
The main objectives of Camp STEEL are to instill core values and self-discipline as well as to build the character and confidence of our Secondary Two NCC Cadets through military-related activities, in order to adequately prepare them for further leadership training in the Upper Secondary Level. Activities include Leadership and Self-Awareness Workshops, High Confidence Challenge Course, 2-sided paintball shooting, physical fitness training, Navigation and Orienteering Exercise and SAR 21 technical handing.
As Camp STEEL is mandatory and a criteria for promotion to CPL for all Part B cadets, COs are urged to ensure full attendance of their Part B cadets. Only under extenuating circumstances such as urgent private affairs or illnesses, are the Part B cadets excused from attending Camp STEEL, in which case, excuse letters, MCs or other supporting documents must be produced.
HQ NCC will bear the entire cost of the camp at the NCC Campus. All NCC teacher officers and cadets are not required to pay for this camp. However, school units with absentees will be required to bear the cost of the ration at $17.50 per cadet.
Participants are to be in No 4 Uniform and to bring along Sports/PT attire. This includes T-shirt, shorts or track pants, sports/canvas shoes, socks and cap. Sandals will only be allowed in the evenings. All cadets are reminded that camera handphones, cameras, Lap-tops, PDAs are not permitted in the camp.
