RSAF ATTACHMENT TO SEMBAWANG AIR BASE

Under the RSAF/NCC (Air) Affiliation Scheme, the NCC (Air) attachment to RSAF Programme is carried out annually in Sembawang Air Base for Part C Cadets. This year the programme is scheduled for Monday 25 October 2010 to Wednesday 27 October 2010 whereby about 85 NCC (Air) cadets/officers will be attached to Sembawang Air Base for 2 ½ days. NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC) 30TH ANNUAL ORIENTEERING COMPETITION 2010

Cadets selected for the competition: CPL CHAN WEI CONG ANDY (IC) CPL OH JUN RONG KELVIN CPL LIM JIN MING JEREMY DENZEL CPL YONG CHONG YAO CPL EE KUAN EN (RESERVED) The NCC Orienteering Competition is conducted annually to evaluate the orienteering skills so as to promote the spirit of competitiveness of our Part B cadets. This competition would include a theory written test to further evaluate their orienteering knowledge. This event is open to all Part B cadets from Boys’, Girls’ and Mixed NCC units and will be held on 20 Oct 2010 from 1230 hrs to 1800 hrs at NCC Campus, Amoy Quee Camp. The Orienteering Competition Package contributes a maximum of 50 points or 5% in the overall Best Unit Competition (BUC) 2010 as follow: a. Orienteering Badge Test conducted at School =15 points (1.5%) b. Orienteering Competition conducted at HQ NCC =35 points (3.5%) The objective of the competition is to foster an outdoor adventure and competitive spirit of our cadets in a neutral environment. It also serves to evaluate and improve the knowledge and map reading skills of the NCC cadets. CONDUCT OF COMPETITION The Orienteering Competition is organised into 3 stations as follow: a. Station 1. Orienteering Theory Test. (10 points) b. Station 2. Navigation Skill -No of Checkpoints found. (12 points) c. Station 3. Orienteering Run -Time taken. (13 points) STATION 1: Orienteering Theory Test. The Orienteering Theory Test is conducted as follow: a. This theory test consists of 10 questions which carries 1 point each. b. All the 4 cadets in a team must take the test and the average score of the 4 cadets will be taken as the final score out of a maximum of 10 points. STATION 2: Navigation Skill - No of Checkpoints found. This station is conducted as follow: a. Each team will set their maps according to the routes assigned by the organizer. b. There will be a maximum of 6 checkpoints. Every checkpoint found contributes 2 points for boys’ or girls’ teams. The maximum points for this station is 12 points. STATION 3: Orienteering Run. The Orienteering Run is conducted as follow: a. Any team who returns in or less than 30 mins will receive a maximum of 13 points (see Annex C). b. Any team that comes back in or after 80 mins will be given 3 points. c. Refer to Annex C for the scoring of other timings. REGISTRATION Registration and checking of participants’ turnout and equipment will be conducted at least half hour before commencement of the competition according to the official run-order. Participants will report to the Registration point to be issued with their competition map and scorecard. They will report in team-level (4 persons + 1 reserve) according to the names registered in the entry form. They will then proceed to the theatrette to sit for their orienteering theory test. A briefing will be conducted after the theory test to cover the rules & regulations as well as the safety precautions for the field competition. All participants will report to NCC Campus, Upper Parade Square, Amoy Quee Camp on 20 Oct 2010 as scheduled, by 1300 hrs. All officials must report by 1200 Hrs. Bus ferry service will be provided between Yio Chu Kang MRT (Taxi Stand) to Amoy Quee Camp from 1200 hrs to 1350 hrs. (Last bus leaves from YCK MRT Station) All participants are required to bring along their Identity Card or Student Pass for verification. Participants who are late may be disqualified from the competition. Refreshments will be provided for all participants & officials. LOCATION OF COMPETITION The competition will be held in the NCC Campus in Amoy Quee Camp. MANDATORY ITEMS Mandatory Items. The following items must be present for each team or individual before they could qualify for the competition: a. For Individuals (1) SAF Water Bottle (filled 500ml), with Pouch & Belt (2) Poncho / Raincoat (optional) (3) Student Pass b. For Each Team (4 cadets) (1) 1 x Compass (2) 1 x Wrist watch (3) Pens, pencil and writing materials c. Each Team will be provided (1) 1 x Score Card (2) 1 x Aerial map of Amoy Quee Camp The dress for all competitors will be No. 4 Camouflage Field Dress, SAF Water bottles and Boots. Caps or head-dress is optional. No singlets, sandals, shoes, shorts and track pants will be allowed. Penalty points will be implemented for non-compliance. INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM PENALTIES DURING REGISTRATION The following are individual penalties to be applicable for individual participants during registration: a. 1 mandatory item missing - 03 points deduction b. Improper uniform (No. 4 Dress) - 03 points deduction c. Shortage of 1 participant - 10 points deduction d. No Identification / Student Pass - 03 points deduction e. No SAF Water Bottle - 05 points deduction (or equivalent with at least 500ml) f. Water Bottle without pouch - 03 points deduction The following are team penalties to be applicable for team participation during registration: a. No Writing materials - 03 points deduction b. No compass - 05 points deduction PRIZES AND AWARDS This year’s competition, prizes will only be awarded to the top five place of each route, eg A, B, C, D, E and girls’ route SAFETY MANAGEMENT All participants are responsible to ensure that they have sufficient rest on the night before the competition. All participants are advised to have at least 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep. They should drink sufficient amount of water before the start of the competition and continue to hydrate themselves during and after the event until they achieve a clear urine colour. Any participant who is not feeling well will be advised not to take part in the competition. If doubtful, he/she should consult the teacher, OIC or the Medical Orderlies present at the competition. Prior to the start of the competition, the cut off time to postpone the event due to inclement weather is 1500 hrs. During the competition, should the weather become inclement or unsafe to continue, participants are advised to take shelter in the training sheds within the area and await evacuation by the Safety Officers. All participants are reminded not to bring in any camera handphones or image capturing devices into the camp. Anyone found in possession of camera handphones will be required to leave the camp and therefore disqualified from the competition.
